TBI One Love Survivor Gary Steifer

Hello,

My name is Gary and I'm a TBI survivor of 8 years, I was hit by a car while riding my bicycle. I was knocked unconscious at the scene.

I'm sure how long I was unconscious; I woke up in the hospital while they were getting me ready for a CT scan. I had a lot of blood coming from my head. I had multiplied injuries to my right knee and hip I ended up with 12 staples in my head.

They never did an MRI on me that night. And they released me. I explained to my doctors all the problems I was having, dizziness, memory loss, depression, I kept falling, fatigue...

I had several MRI 's and several neurologists told me there was nothing wrong and I would outgrow these symptoms. After 6 1/2 years of battling these problems, I finally found a neurologist who listen and cared. Within 15 min. of our office visit he notice one of my eyes was setting higher than the other one. (I now wear prism glasses to correct my vision) He used a 3D MRI on me, and that showed my TBI.

I go to therapy 2 times a week. It's a lot of work. The damage is not just to one part on my brain it's spread out through out! If I would have got the help when this first happened. I could have recovered quicker and maybe gain everything back!

I got divorced of 28 years due to this accident, because I'm a different person. I'm a musician too, and having a hard time remembering songs, notes very depressed!

Thank you TBI One Love for all you do for us Survivors.
