TBI One Love Survivor Grace Parry

Hello my name is Grace and I am from the United Kingdom.

On March 5th last year(2025) I woke up with the worst headache and I’d been having terrible pains in my neck for a couple of week. I started being sick in the loo, my vision went , the feeling in my legs went and I had a seizure on the floor. My mum and my partner called the ambulance but the paramedics didn’t believe that anything was going wrong and they accused me of putting it on. They didn’t even call an ambulance. So , My partner took me to an and emergency center where I waited on plastic chairs for 3 days. I couldn’t speak and I couldn’t walk :( it’s horrific when you tell the story back.

The hospital tried saying all my symptoms were my FND or that it could all be attributed to anxiety but when they finally scanned me they said it was a lesion on my spinal cord ( they saw some diagnosis and it turned out to be a dissection and a stroke caused by a chiropractor who manipulated my neck. After 3 weeks the hospital tried to discharge me but my partner was concerned so wrote to the health board for a second opinion . It was then they discovered I had had a stroke.

Since then I have come a long way but I still suffer with fatigue , vertigo, seizures and black outs. I also have vocal tics which can be rather embarsssing.

I feel like my brain injury has changed my life but I don’t want it to change the person I am as I am still Grace. I’m slowly getting back into my singing and learning to live my new normal as I await further testing and pray that things get better.
